Marte shines with a home run, but Dodgers celebrate with victory after receiving their rings

LOS ANGELES. — On a night of celebration at Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers received their championship rings and then completed a close 5-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks, despite an outstanding performance by Dominican Ketel Marte.

Mars shined with the bat by connecting his first home run of the season, finishing the game 5-2 with a run scored and another driven in. Also contributing to Arizona’s offense were Dominican Geraldo Perdomo with a hit and Carlos Santana, who hit a double and scored a run. However, the decisive moment came in the eighth inning, when Kyle Tucker hit a run-scoring single that broke the tie and secured the lead for the Dodgers. The outfielder, one of the team’s big acquisitions before the season, was again key after also contributing in the opening game. The Dodgers’ bullpen responded in crucial moments. Venezuelan Edgardo Henríquez was credited with the victory after a solid performance in the eighth inning, while Puerto Rican Edwin Díaz closed out the game to earn his first save with the Los Angeles team. Díaz, who made his debut with the Dodgers this season, dominated the ninth inning despite issuing a walk, sealing the victory with a groundout by Marte for the final out. For the Dodgers, Dominican Teoscar Hernández and Cuban Andy Pagés failed to produce offensively in the game. The victory allowed Los Angeles to successfully crown a special day, marked by the presentation of their World Series rings and the support of their fans at the start of the new season.
