The Detroit Tigers’ ace confirmed, after a spring training session, that his only outing in the tournament would be scheduled for March 7 during the group stage, in the match against Great Britain that will be played in Houston. Skubal explained that his decision is due to the intention of balancing the commitment to represent his country with the need to maintain his usual preparation routine for the regular season of Major League Baseball. The pitcher assured that his training plan will not undergo modifications due to his brief participation in the international competition. Likewise, he left open the possibility of staying with the American team as support in case they advance to the final of the tournament, although he ruled out pitching again beyond his scheduled opening. The presence of Skubal momentarily strengthens the United States’ mound corps in the tournament, although his priority will continue to be his preparation with Detroit for the 2026 campaign.
