With the crown on and the flag in hand: The chosen one is received by Abinader
Santo Domingo.– President Luis Abinader received the Leones del Escogido this Thursday in the Green Hall of the National Palace, after being proclaimed champions of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM). The team went to the Government House to present the trophy obtained in Dominican professional baseball, in an act full of emotion and pride prior to the team’s participation in the Caribbean Series 2026, in Jalisco, Mexico.
During the meeting, the president congratulated the board, coaching staff and players, highlighting that the team represents the entire Dominican Republic in the upcoming Caribbean event. Abinader even wore the scarlet jersey and encouraged the players to compete with the same dedication shown in the local tournament, assuring them that they now have the support of the entire nation.
As part of the event, the president officially presented the National Flag to representatives of the team, a symbol of patriotic commitment with which they will travel to Mexico, reiterating his confidence that the Lions have the quality to bring a new Caribbean crown to the country.
In the activity, President Abinader was accompanied by the Administrative Minister of the Presidency, Andrés Bautista; the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz; the president of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM), Vitelio Mejía; the president of the Leones del Escogido team, Eduardo Najri; the director of the team, José Miguel Bonetti; as well as Leonardo Aguilera, executive president of Banco de Reservas, in addition to other authorities and representatives of the sports sector.
