Zach Eflin throws a gem of seven innings as the Orioles edge the White Sox 2-1

BALTIMORE — Zach Eflin shined from the mound by pitching seven scoreless innings, and the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Chicago White Sox 2-1 this Friday in a game advanced due to adverse weather conditions.

Eflin (4-2) allowed only four hits, struck out six and issued one walk in his first scoreless start this season, lowering his ERA to 4.46.

The game remained scoreless until the sixth inning, when Mexican Ramón Urías broke the tie with a sacrifice fly against opposing starter Sean Burke (3-6). Minutes later, Ryan Mountcastle completed a double steal by stealing home, although he later had to leave the game due to discomfort in his right hamstring before the eighth inning.

Bryan Baker threw a perfect eighth inning, and in the ninth, Dominican closer Félix Bautista allowed a run-scoring double by Andrew Benintendi, but managed to get out of the jam leaving two runners on base, thus adding his ninth save of the year.

For the White Sox, Venezuelan Lenyn Sosa went 2-for-3, while Cubans Miguel Vargas and Luis Robert Jr. went 1-for-4 and 0-for-3, respectively. By Baltimore, Mexican Urías went 2-0 with an RBI, and Puerto Rican Emmanuel Rivera finished 3-0.

The game, originally scheduled for 7:05 p.m., was moved up to 4:30 p.m. due to forecasts of bad weather in the region.
