Club San Lázaro will participate in the “2nd Hugo Cabrera Basketball Classic” in Union City, New Jersey

Santo Domingo.- The U-16 team of the San Lázaro Club is getting ready to participate in the “2nd Hugo Cabrera Basketball Classic”, which will be held in Union City, New Jersey, United States, from October 10 to 13, 2025.

This event, organized by the Hispanic Basketball Association (HBA), is a posthumous tribute to Hugo Cabrera, one of the great figures of Dominican and international basketball. Cabrera, who lived in New York since his childhood, passed away in March 2022. The tournament, which bears his name, seeks to pay tribute to his legacy in basketball.


The “2nd Hugo Cabrera Basketball Classic” will feature teams from Spain, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Guatemala, the United States, and the Dominican Republic, and promises to be a high-level competitive event.


The Club San Lázaro team will be made up of the following players: Héctor Samuel Villavicencio, Ángel Luis García Pimentel, Elián Michael Rodríguez de Mesa, Jesús Abel González Lara, Alan Manuel Céspedes Rosa, Ángel de Jesús Gonell Alburquerque, Bryan José Sánchez Soriano, Wander Enrique González Groos, Romer Fernández Guerrero, Lían Ramírez and Brian Andújar. The coaching staff will be headed by coach Luis Miguel Acevedo, along with Freddy Rafael Sánchez Díaz as head of the delegation and Vladimir Lenin Guerrero Soto as delegate.


This event not only represents an opportunity for young athletes to compete internationally, but also to pay tribute to a basketball icon, while reinforcing their experience and growth in the sport.
