The long-awaited encounter at the iconic Prudential Center court, at 25 Lafayette in Newark-NJ, will be from 6:00 in the evening, whose tickets are on sale at www.Ticketmaster.com with prices ranging from 69 to 257 dollars. That arena, with a capacity for 16,755 people and built for US$375 million, is the home ice of the New Jersey Devils, an NHL ice hockey team, and Seton Hall University, in the NCAA basketball league, both since 2007. The announcement was made this Wednesday by the president of the National District Basketball Association (Abadina), Colonel Diego Pesqueira, spokesman for the National Police, at a press conference in the James Rodríguez conference room of the Ministry of Sports. Pesqueira announced that the TBS Distrito 2025 will have a special dedication to the Immortal of Sport, Evaristo Pérez, former player of the San Carlos club in the capital event, a team with which he won several titles and was a member of the national basketball team for many years. He highlighted that the district competition will be for the Banreservas Cup and will feature the participation of the clubs Mauricio Báez, champion in 2024, the runner-up Bameso, San Carlos, Rafael Barias, San Lázaro, Huellas del Siglo, Los Prados and El Millón. He also reported that Abadina and the acting clubs approved and officially announced that Prof. Nelson Ramírez will be the TBS District Commissioner 2025. Pesqueira also communicated that prior to the inaugural event, a spectacular “opening” will be celebrated on September 10th and the Grapefruit League – a kind of preseason – will be launched, which will serve as a preparation phase for the participating teams. The day after the match between Mauritians and Bamesians, on Sunday, September 21st, the first day of competition will be played at the Ricardo Gioriber Arias Volleyball Pavilion, which is the official venue for the district championship. “I want to give special recognition to Carlos Bonilla, Minister of Housing and Buildings of the Dominican Republic, for letting us play in the Volleyball Pavilion, a facility that is currently undergoing a deep renovation, and which will be officially completed after the TBS Distrito,” Pesqueira affirmed. Pesqueira was accompanied at the press conference by urban artist Jalexiz Fernández, president of “Por Amor al Basket”; Abadina directors: Edwin Castillo, Gilberto De la Cruz and Rubén Montes de Oca; Nelson Ramírez; and the delegates from the clubs José Domínguez (Mauricio Báez), Pedro Lara (Bameso), Alex Rodríguez (San Lázaro), Kendrick Peralta (Los Prados), Ramón González (Huellas) and Miguel Merejo (Barias). “This will be a historic and unprecedented event for basketball in general, so we expect majority support from the Dominican diaspora in the United States from the cities of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Boston, among others.” He valued the support of Roberto Rojas, who is the main ideologue of the historic “Game of Respect”, along with the urban artist Jalexiz Fernández, president of “For the Love of Basketball”. “I want to highlight the support, for several years, given by the businessman Santiago Matías (Alofoke) to the TBS Distrital, since without him we would not have so many doors open in the local and international sphere, and in the same way for the commercial agreement with the company Vinícola del Norte and its star product Cerveza República,” Pesqueira pointed out. For his part, Jalexiz Fernández, said that at halftime of the match between Mauricio Báez and Bameso there will be an artistic show with the urban artists DJ Adonis, El Lápiz Consciente and Bulova, hosted by Hony Estrella and Albert Mena and will be broadcast by Telemicro Internacional and in Quisqueyan territory by Digital 15. Organizing Committee
Diego Pesqueira praised the president of the Organizing Committee, the Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, who, along with his team, is working to ensure a successful and well-received event for the whole family. Pesqueira conveyed an excuse for the absence of the Committee President, Paliza, as he is currently out of the country fulfilling an official agenda. He affirmed that, from now on, Abadina began an advertising campaign called “From Corner to Corner with Abadina,” in a kind of dynamic in each of the neighborhoods and sectors of the teams participating in the TBS District. Competition Format
The tournament includes a first regular phase of 10 games per team in groups A and B format, in which two franchises will be eliminated, then, the remaining six teams will compete in a second stage (Elimination Phase), carrying wins and losses, and finally, the top four will advance to the semifinals and define the finalists.
The TBS Distrito reaffirms its status as the pinnacle event of national basketball, because it has a history of having the 10 most watched games in the history of Dominican basketball on YouTube. It’s the tournament that brings together the most national team players on the same court.
