FIFA has named Cape Verde defender Sidny Lopes Cabral the winner of the Best Goal award at the 2026 FIFA World Cup for his stunning strike against Argentina in the Round of 32.
The goal topped the fan vote ahead of strikes by Uzbekistan’s Eldor Shomurodov and Haiti’s Wilson Isidor.
Lopes Cabral scored after dribbling past Alexis Mac Allister before curling the ball into the top corner beyond Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez to level the match at 2-2 during extra time.
“I saw some space and thought, ‘I’m going to try it,'” Lopes Cabral said. “When I saw the ball go in, I thought, ‘What the hell did I just do?'”
