Barcelona (EFE).- Portuguese full-back Joao Cancelo, who arrived in the Catalan capital this Monday, has passed the mandatory medical examination and will sign his contract with Hansi Flick’s team until the end of the season.

Cancelo, 31 years old, will be presented at 12:00 GMT at the commercial office of the FC Barcelona. Upon his arrival, he said he was «very happy» to return to the Blaugrana team, where he already played on loan from Manchester City in the 2023-2024 season, and to which he now returns to cover the long-term absence of central defender Andreas Christensen.
The Portuguese player signed for six seasons with Manchester City in 2019, but left on loan in 2023 to Bayern Munich, a club where he played for five months.
Subsequently, he returned to the Manchester team, where he did not have a prominent role. Between September 2023 and June 2024, he played with Barça – then managed by Xavi Hernández – on loan and in August 2024 he was transferred to Al-Hilal Saudi.
His versatility, as he can play on both flanks of the defense, has convinced Hansi Flick.
