Premier League surpasses 450 million in the winter transfer market

London (EFE).- It has been a quiet winter market in the Premier League, but that has not prevented the league’s clubs from spending 390 million pounds (450 million euros), a figure very similar to last year’s and which consolidates the English football competition as the most powerful in the world.

While English clubs have disbursed 450 million, Serie A is the second-highest spending league in the world, with around 240 million, the Brazilian championship, the third, with 200, while Spain appears in eighth place, with just 75 million.

Even MLS has spent more than Spanish clubs. Spending level similar to last year

The spending level in England has been very similar to last year’s and the dominant team has once again been Manchester City, who bought Antoine Semenyo for 72 million and Marc Guéhi for 23, in addition to bringing back a couple of young players who were on loan.

As happened a year ago, City has had to resort to the market to solve what it cannot on the field. Pep Guardiola’s team wants to arrive with guarantees to fight for the Premier and the Champions League in the second part of the season and, for that, needed a forward and a defender to cover the injured Rúben Dias, Josko Gvardiol and John Stones. To finance part of that expense, they sold Oscar Bobb to Fulham for 31 million. Another team that the market needed to improve its context is Crystal Palace, who have spent 50 million on Jorgen Strand Larsen and 40 on Brennan Johnson, in addition to the loan of Evan Guessand. The Londoners intended to sell Jean-Phillipe Mateta to Milan, which would raise about 40 million, but the French striker failed the medical examination.

Signings of the big clubs

Regarding the big teams, beyond City, spending has been discreet. Tottenham Hotspur shored up the midfield with Conor Gallagher, coming from Atletico Madrid for 40 million and the full-back with Souza (15 million). Chelsea has called back a couple of loaned players, like Mamadou Sarr and Anselmino, whom they loaned back to Strasbourg, while Arsenal and Manchester United haven’t made any moves. Liverpool has signed French defender Jeremy Jacquet for 70 million, but he won’t join the team until summer and will continue these last months at Rennes.

In addition, the ‘Hammers’ got rid of Lucas Paquetá, sold to Flamengo for 40 million, which allowed them to finance almost all the spending of this window. The Premier League’s total sales exceed 300 million and the biggest seller has been Bournemouth. The ‘Cherries’ placed Semenyo in City for 72 million and with that money they brought in Rayan, from Vasco Da Gama, and Alex Toth, from Ferencvaros.
