SANTO DOMINGO. – Colombian Wilmer Paredes starred in an explosive finish to win the second stage of the 47th Vuelta Ciclística Independencia Nacional on Wednesday, while Dominican Danielky Cedeño retained the lead in the general classification.

The stage covered 153 kilometers on the Santo Domingo–San Cristóbal–Circunvalación Santo Domingo route, starting from the facilities of Seaboard Energía Limpia, whose general manager, Armando Rodríguez, gave the official start.
Paredes crossed the finish line with a time of 3 hours and 42 seconds, narrowly beating the pack after a powerful final sprint that allowed him to gain an advantage of a bicycle. Jason Huertas, from Team La Romana, and Álvaro Reyes completed the podium of the day.
Cedeño remains in charge
Despite the stage victory of the Colombian cyclist, Danielky Cedeño, winner of the opening stage, he remains the overall leader with an accumulated time of 5:14:28. Paredes is close behind, just four seconds away, which anticipates a close fight for the leader’s jersey in the coming stages.
In the team classification, Team Medellín leads the table with a global record of 15:44:29, followed by City Bike Miami, which accumulates 15:46:39.
Next challenge: mountain stage
The competition will continue this Thursday the 26th with the third stage, a 158-kilometer route that will start from the Banreservas Tower, on Winston Churchill Avenue, and will culminate in Rancho Arriba, San José de Ocoa. The mountainous layout could cause significant movements in the general classification.
On Friday the 27th, a closed circuit will be held in Mirador Sur Park (140 kilometers), while on Saturday the 28th, the penultimate stage Santo Domingo–Circunvalación Santo Domingo Norte (138 kilometers) will be run.
The 47th edition of the Dominican Giro will conclude on Sunday, March 1st, with a final circuit in the monumental area of Santiago.
The contest is supported by the Administrative Ministry of the Presidency, the Ministry of Sports, Banreservas, Seaboard and Economic Dining Halls, in addition to the logistical support of the Military and Police Commission of the Ministry of Public Works, the 911 System, Digesset, Politur and the Dominican Olympic Committee.
