Caracas.- A team of seven firefighters left Venezuela this Wednesday, after spending five days in rescue efforts in the area most devastated by the 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes from a week ago, which have so far left 2,295 dead and 11,267 injured.
n” “n“It has been intense work, we have been working practically three consecutive days without stopping,” Eugenio Mantero, secretary of the Spanish NGO Bomberos para el Mundo (Firefighters for the World), told EFE.
n” “nMantero explained that the team, which arrived in Venezuela with two pets, intensified its search during the nights, from 18:00 local time (22:00 GMT) until dawn the following day, because during the day the high temperatures of the coastal state of La Guaira complicated the rescue efforts.
n” “n“Unfortunately, we have not been able to find anyone alive,” indicated the firefighter, who highlighted that “the destruction of the area” where they were, Playa Grande and Caraballeda, “has been widespread” and “maximum in all the buildings.”
