Santo Domingo.– President Luis Abinader highlighted this Monday the fundamental role of the family in the education of children and in the formation of citizens, during the official opening ceremony of the 2026-2027 school year, held at La Milagrosa school, in Santo Domingo East.
The president highlighted that family education should complement the training students receive in educational centers and called on fathers, mothers, and guardians to get actively involved in the learning process.
“When both work together, we can achieve much more with our children,” stated Abinader.
The president also highlighted that the support of families can contribute to improving academic performance, strengthening discipline, and fostering greater student responsibility during the 2026-2027 school year.
Abinader calls on families to accompany students
The president urged parents to follow up on their children, both in the completion of school assignments and in regular class attendance during the 2026-2027 school year.
Abinader considered that family support is decisive for the educational development of children and adolescents and maintained that no public program can replace the backing that students receive from their homes.
“No public program can replace the power in a child when their family believes in them,” the president expressed.

During his statements, Abinader highlighted the importance of families and educational centers working together to strengthen learning and contribute to the comprehensive development of students.

The statements were offered during the opening ceremony of the 2026-2027 school year, a day that marks the return to the classrooms for students of the different levels of the Dominican educational system.
In that sense, Abinader insisted that parental participation should not be limited to the start of classes, but rather maintained throughout the 2026-2027 school year, by monitoring their children’s homework, attendance, and performance.
The event was held at La Milagrosa school, in Santo Domingo Este, with the participation of educational authorities and representatives of the school community.
