San Juan.– After the peaceful march convened this Sunday in rejection of mining exploitation in the province of San Juan, agents of the National Police intervened using tear gas and water pressure to disperse the demonstrators who were still at the scene.
According to reports from those present, the mobilization took place peacefully during its route, gathering dozens of citizens, social and community organizations that reiterated their opposition to mining projects in the area.
However, after the activity concluded, police units proceeded to evict the area, which generated moments of tension among the attendees, who denounced the excessive use of force by the authorities.
So far, there have been no official reports of people arrested or injured during the incident. Nor has an official detailed version been issued by the National Police regarding the reasons for the intervention.
The protest organizers reiterated their call to defend the province’s natural resources and warned that they will continue to carry out activities against mining in San Juan.
