Santo Domingo.- The Permanent Attention Office of West Santo Domingo imposed one year of preventive detention this Wednesday on Corporal José Francisco Moreta, accused of taking the life of the young man Darling Mercado in the Herrera sector.
The defendant must serve the coercive measure at the Las Parras Correction and Rehabilitation Center (CCR).
According to the indictment, the events occurred at approximately 5:00 in the afternoon last Friday in the La Cañada de Guajimía sector. The accused was performing patrol duties and was searching the citizen Fénix Junior Ceballos Guzmán, who was driving a motorcycle owned by the victim.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office states that, when Mercado Reyes approached the police officer to indicate that the vehicle was his property, the accused, without saying a word, shot him in the chest. The impact caused his death instantly, according to the death certificate no. 0111474.

The incident was recorded by Ceballos Guzmán from his cell phone. Said device will be sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) for the corresponding extraction of the videos as part of the evidence.
The prosecuting body has legally classified the case as a violation of articles 295 and 304 of the Dominican Penal Code, which define and sanction voluntary homicide.
