Air traffic in Latin America and the Caribbean grew by 3.8% in 2025, according to ALTA

Bogotá.- Air passenger traffic from, to, and within Latin America and the Caribbean was 477.3 million people in 2025, a growth of 3.8%, that is, 17.5 million more than in 2024, reported this Monday the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA). That growth, stated ALTA CEO Peter Cerdá, “confirms a stable and positive year for the region“.

“84% of the expansion came from operations within Latin America and the Caribbean, with Argentina as the market with the highest percentage growth, followed by Brazil, which registered a historical record by exceeding 100 million domestic passengers, and Panama”, added Cerdá.

In the opinion of the ALTA executive, these “data reflect sustained dynamism that could accelerate if more efficient regulatory frameworks and conditions that facilitate competitiveness in our markets advance.” The Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association indicated that the total flight supply in the region increased by 2%, while the total capacity, measured in available seats, grew by 3.1%. Brazil is the regional leader in the air market with 129.6 million passengers last year, which represented a growth of 9.4%, corresponding to more than 11.2 million additional travelers.

“During the year, Brazil reached several milestones: for the first time it surpassed 100 million domestic passengers, while international traffic also recorded its best historical performance, with 28.4 million passengers. The domestic market grew 8.4% year-on-year, while the international market increased 13.4% year-on-year,” ALTA added in a statement. Meanwhile, Argentina had the highest percentage growth in the region, with 13.2%, registering 33.3 million passengers last year. On the other hand, the HIGHLIGHT indicated that the Mexican market grew moderately last year; Colombia and Chile weakened domestically, and Peru had greater growth. “In the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic recorded the highest passenger growth in 2025, with 19.6 million passengers transported, a year-on-year increase of 3.1%”, specified the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association.
