Family of murdered child denounce official inaction and demand capture of fugitive

Santo Domingo. – The family of the minor recently murdered in this community denounced a standstill in the investigations and demanded that the judicial authorities immediately capture all those responsible. Despite the social commotion and mobilizations, the family maintains that the State’s response has lost strength after the march held on Sunday, February 15th. Nizaury Rosario Pérez, the victim’s sister, questioned the sustainability of the interventions by the General Directorate of Migration (DGM). According to her testimony, the deployment of agents and trucks observed before the citizen demonstration disappeared after the protest. “The day before the march they made a display, but since Friday not a single migration truck has been seen. If the Haitians have left, it has been of their own free will in the face of tension, not because of a real intervention by the authorities,” Pérez affirmed, pointing out a lack of efficiency in the operation following the crisis. For his part, Vítor Manuel Medina Pérez, the younger sibling’s brother, acknowledged that there was an initial 70% reduction in the presence of immigrants in the area, but emphasized that the absolute priority is criminal justice.

“We stand with the people and cannot remain silent. Action has been taken in part, but more is needed. We demand that all those responsible for the death of my brother be captured and pay for what they did,” said Medina. The victim’s mother, visibly affected, reported that the authorities have not yet proceeded with the arrest of a third suspect who has already been identified. Although two people are in custody, the family criticizes the delay in completing the captures, warning that the freedom of the last person involved maintains a climate of insecurity in the area. The family emphasized that their demand for justice extends to all victims of similar crimes, insisting that this case cannot go unpunished under any circumstances. The murder has created a deep wound in the community, which remains on alert due to the lack of definitive results. While the authorities assure that the operations continue, the local population and the families demand that the judicial system act with greater speed and forcefulness to close the case effectively.
