Santo Domingo.– Businessman and communicator Santiago Matías (Alofoke) revealed that a commission made up of representatives of alternative media outlets held a meeting with President Luis Abinader to raise concerns regarding several articles of the new Penal Code.
During a live broadcast, Matías explained that the meeting took place approximately three weeks ago at the National Palace, after the group requested to be received by the president due to the imminent entry into force of the new legislation.
As detailed, the commission included communicators José Peguero, Ariel Lara, Ramón Tolentino, Ricardo Ripoll, El Piro, and himself, in addition to legal teams that worked alongside Government representatives in the review of the questioned articles.

The communicator stated that the joint work allowed for the drafting of a version with changes which, as he said, will be submitted to the National Congress for discussion before the Penal Code comes into effect.
Likewise, he thanked President Abinader for receiving the commission and listening to the proposals presented, highlighting that dialogue was the way to reach agreements on the articles that had generated concern in different sectors.
“This was not achieved by fighting; it was achieved by talking, reaching a consensus, and seeking points of understanding,” expressed Matías, who also acknowledged the participation of citizens who expressed their concerns through social media.
So far, the Executive Branch and the National Congress have not offered official confirmation regarding the modifications announced by the communicator.
