At 90 years old, Hungría Vázquez Hernández celebrates more than half a century of poetry and literary teaching.

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican writer Hungría Vázquez Hernández, with over 90 years of life and a prolific literary career, stated that writing has always been an act of discipline, authenticity, and dedication.

“That which has come out from my self lived in my mind… nobody taught me. I am self-taught. Nobody taught me how to write a press article, nor a poem, nor a song. I learned everything on my own,” expressed the author, who currently resides in New York.

During the interview, he revealed the magnitude of his work “Waterfall of Poems”, which contains 5,600 poems in a single copy: “That’s true, all from our brain. There is not a word that is not ours. It is an effort of more than 50 years of life dedicated to poetry”. Regarding his relationship with Dominican history, Vázquez Hernández explained that his book “Poetic Compilation on Doctor Joaquín Balaguer” includes verses dedicated to the former president: “The master of masters, because intelligence closes, knows his own by walking for example. He is a legislated being of gold.”

Regarding the importance of his works, he emphasized that his motivation is to leave a legacy for new generations: “A book can change a life, but also a society. I would like to be one of those who competes, that my works are also read”.

Vázquez Hernández, author of “A Poem for Every Day”, “Straight to the Point” and “My Poetic Brushstrokes”, called on the youth: “A writer is an eternal apprentice; every day begins anew in front of the blank page. Error also teaches. Writing is an act of courage, and every word written is a victory”.
