Cedeño acknowledges State limitations in the Brianna Genao case and calls for monitoring children

Santo Domingo.— The deputy of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), Eugenio Cedeño, admitted that the Dominican State faces limitations in investigative matters, while urging parents and guardians to maintain constant vigilance over their children, within the framework of the disappearance of the girl Brianna Genao, which occurred in the municipality of Imbert, Puerto Plata province. The legislator valued the integration of international organizations, such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), into the search efforts as positive and necessary, noting that external cooperation is key given the limited capabilities of national investigative bodies.

“We know that our investigative bodies have limitations. The help of international organizations is welcome and necessary in this phase of the investigation,” said Cedeño.

The deputy specified that the direction of the investigation and official communication should fall to the Public Ministry, as it is the constitutional body responsible for criminal prosecution, while the National Police acts as an auxiliary entity in investigative processes.

Likewise, Cedeño made an emphatic call to families, warning that the protection of minors is not only the responsibility of the State. In his opinion, many parents neglect the supervision of their children due to the excessive use of electronic devices and social networks.

“There are parents more focused on their cell phones, TikTok, or soap operas, and they neglect their children. Children deserve attention and accompaniment,” she stated.

In that sense, he maintained that minors should not be left out of the sight or control of adults, insisting that parental supervision is essential to prevent risky situations.
