Santo Domingo.– The Chamber of Deputies approved this Thursday, with modifications, the bill that seeks to regulate gambling in the Dominican Republic and returned it to the Senate of the Republic for its consideration, in accordance with the corresponding legislative procedure.
The initiative, submitted by the Executive Branch, aims to establish a legal framework for the operation, supervision, and functioning of establishments dedicated to gambling in the country, defining the requirements that their owners must meet to obtain and maintain the necessary authorizations.
Among the most relevant modifications is the regulation of the location of betting shops and other businesses in the sector, establishing a minimum distance from institutions considered protected by the regulations, as part of the measures to strengthen the control of this activity.

The project also includes provisions aimed at strengthening the oversight of the sector, ensuring compliance with legal obligations by operators, and promoting a more transparent operation of the gambling industry.
Following its approval in the Chamber of Deputies with modifications, the legislative piece must return to the Senate of the Republic so that the chamber may review the changes introduced and decide whether to accept them or maintain the previously approved text.
If the modifications are accepted by the Senate, the bill will be ready to be sent to the Executive Branch for its promulgation and subsequent entry into force. Otherwise, it will continue the legislative process provided for by the Constitution and the regulations of the National Congress.
