Dominican ballplayers will support 2026 World Police Games

Seattle. – Major League Baseball stars Julio Rodríguez and Fernando Tatis Jr. expressed their support for the celebration in the Dominican Republic of the IV World Police Games, to be held from October 26 to 30, 2026. The announcement was made by General Jacobo Mateo Moquete, director of Sports of the National Police, after meeting with both players in Seattle. Rodríguez and Tatis stated that, although they cannot guarantee their presence due to their professional career commitments, they are available to promote and support the event in the country and internationally.

“They are just the first players contacted; we have instructions from Major General Ramón Antonio Guzmán Peralta to continue presenting the Games to our Major League stars, because this event is not just for the Police, it is for the entire Dominican Republic,” said Mateo Moquete.

The headquarters of the International Police Sports Union (USIP) is in Dubai, chaired by General Mohamed Al Dhaheri (Dubai Police) and with General Gonzalo Londoño (Colombian Police) as Secretary General. Both visited the country and Major General Guzmán Peralta swore in the Organizing Committee, headed by General Juan Guzmán Badía, Deputy Director General of the Police. It was in Dubai where Guzmán Peralta presented the Dominican candidacy, with the endorsement of the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader.

The World Police Games will bring together athletes from over 70 countries in eight disciplines: baseball, beach volleyball, 3×3 basketball, swimming, judo, athletics, golf, and IPSC shooting. Previous editions were held in Colombia, Dubai, and Italy, solidifying the event as one of the most important in the international sports calendar for police forces. In addition to the Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful, figures such as the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz; the president of the Dominican Olympic Committee, Garibaldy Bautista; the president of the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, José Monegro; and IOC member Luisín Mejía have expressed their support. In the coming days, Mateo Moquete plans to meet with Dominican baseball legends such as Juan Marichal, Pedro Martínez, and David Ortiz to garner their support for this historic event.
