San Salvador.– A team of rescuers, medical personnel, and rescue dogs departed this Thursday from El Salvador heading to Venezuela to support search and rescue efforts in the South American country, which was struck on Wednesday by two strong earthquakes that have so far left 188 dead and 1,520 injured.
n” “nThis is “highly trained” personnel for search and rescue tasks, as reported by the Presidency, who “carry with them the necessary supplies for the mission“.
n” “nThe team is made up of members of the Armed Forces, Civil Protection, the Medical Emergency System, and they are accompanied by dogs from the Salvadoran Army’s Canine Rescue Unit.
n” “nThe elements gathered at the facilities of the Military Air Base, located in the central department of La Paz, where the supplies that complement the contingent were prepared and packed.

El Salvador has been one of the many countries that stood in solidarity with Venezuela after the earthquakes and offered humanitarian aid of 300 rescuers, medicines, and supplies.

The Central American country’s support becomes effective even though both nations have not maintained diplomatic relations since November 2019, when Bukele ordered the expulsion of the Venezuelan diplomatic corps and its embassy in San Salvador closed.

However, the acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, thanked the Salvadoran leader for his offer of support and ordered her Foreign Ministry to coordinate the necessary mechanisms for the reception of the Salvadoran contingent.
