Former Mayor of Nagua and Vice-Consul in PR demands justice for the murder of Raini Tomás Rodríguez, former professional baseball player

Santiago. – The former mayor of the municipality of Nagua, María Trinidad Sánchez province, and current vice-consul Dominican in Puerto Rico, Ángel de Jesús López (El Compa), demanded this Saturday an exhaustive and transparent investigation into the brutal torture and murder of Raini Tomás Rodríguez Rojas, former professional baseball player, whose body was found with multiple gunshot wounds, severe blows and in an advanced state of decomposition.

The crime has caused deep consternation in the province of María Trinidad Sánchez and in different sectors of the country, where Raini was known not only for his time in professional baseball, but also for being a young, hardworking man with exemplary conduct, according to family members and community members. López attended in solidarity with the victim’s family and representing the people of Nagua, reiterating his gratitude to the press for following the case and underlining the seriousness of the event. “We are facing a horrendous crime that has deeply impacted our community. Raini was a professional baseball player, a hardworking young man, and today his mother is completely destroyed by this pain,” he expressed.

The official recalled that he was mayor of Nagua for 10 years and that he currently serves as Dominican vice-consul in Puerto Rico, from where he has closely followed the indignation and the clamor for justice that this case has also generated among the Nagua residents abroad. When referring to the family drama, she narrated that Raini’s mother described the close relationship she had with her son. “She told me that he hugged her and called her ‘mommy’, that he was her man, her son. This has been deeply painful,” she stated. The bodies of Raini Tomás Rodríguez Rojas and Rodolfo Martinez were found in conditions that show evidence of brutal torture prior to their murder, which has increased the social demand for the authorities to clarify the event, identify those responsible, and ensure that the crime does not go unpunished.
