Cotuí.- The death of a 69-year-old woman in the La Altagracia sector, in the municipality of Cotuí, has taken a significant turn after new evidence pointed to a possible criminal act, according to authorities.
The case is being investigated by the Central Directorate of Investigation (
DICRIM), after inconsistencies were detected between the initial cause of death and subsequent findings.
The victim was identified as Honoria de Jesús Rosa Moreno, known as “Edita”, who was found lifeless on the night of Sunday, April 26, in her residence, located behind a tire repair shop.
Initially, the death was attributed to a presumed heart attack, according to the death certificate issued after his transfer to a health center. However, days later, family members reviewed security cameras, which raised doubts about this version.
The images show that a man entered the house in the morning of the same Sunday, after asking the woman to let him in. The victim lived alone.
The authorities identified the alleged involved as Orlando Ruiz, alias “Trini” and/or “Trinitario”, 33 years old, residing in Cotuí, Sánchez Ramírez province. According to reports, the individual had recently left the Palo Hincado penitentiary center.
National Police agents seized the hard drive of the home’s surveillance system as part of the investigative process.
The suspect was arrested on Thursday afternoon and remains in custody at the Cotuí police detachment, while investigations continue to clarify the circumstances of the event.
