In 2025, the Republic of India became the second destination for Dominican exports, due to the gold shipments made to that nation.
India displaced traditional export destinations such as Haiti, Switzerland, and Puerto Rico.
This year, approximately US$1.515 billion has been exported to India, mostly of platinum and raw gold.
The total amount exported in 2025 represents a year-on-year growth of 146.1% and an absolute variation of US$899.5 million.
In 2024, the top five export destinations by volume were: United States, Haiti, Switzerland, Puerto Rico, and India.
In 2025, they are: United States, India, Haiti, Puerto Rico, and Canada. Exports to the latter are also supported by platinum gold and raw gold, worth US$430.6 million so far this year.
India is currently the second-largest consumer of gold in the world. Gold jewelry is a symbol of status and wealth in Indian society, and is common at important events such as weddings and religious festivals. Despite fluctuations in prices, the demand for gold in India remains constant and stable.
