INEFI crowns Moca in the II National School Baseball Tournament 2025

Santo Domingo. – The representative of Moca (Regional 06) won the second version of the Second INEFI 2025 National School Baseball Tournament, after defeating the selection of the National District (Regional 15) 15-10 in the final held at the Banreservas Club Stadium. The new school baseball champions dominated the tournament from start to finish, which allowed them to lift the champion’s cup, presented by Alberto Rodríguez Mella, executive director of the National Institute of Physical Education (INEFI). “Congratulations not only to the champions, but to all the teams because they showed a lot of gallantry on the field. This is another dream come true for us at INEFI: to consistently maintain the organization of events like this. Thank God it culminated successfully,” expressed Rodríguez Mella. The director of INEFI emphasized that, once again, this tournament combined essential factors such as sports, education, and family, with the participation of the 32 provinces through their educational regions. “This tournament pushes many of these young people towards the dream of reaching the Major Leagues. And for those who don’t make it, it will be an experience that strengthens their academic and personal development. If we continue to combine education with sports, as we have done from day one, we will have a better country for everyone,” he pointed out. The Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the final was Yeison Calcaño, who went 3-3, including a double and a home run, with four RBIs and two stolen bases. The third place went to the representative of San Francisco de Macorís (Regional 07), who defeated the Mao team (Regional 09) 13-3.

Recognized Players

Regarding the special awards, the school competition recognized three players from the Espaillat province: José Armando Mora was distinguished with the award for best conduct, Kevin Morillo received the award for best pitcher, and Ángel Vásquez was selected as the best defensive player. The tournament was organized by INEFI, in coordination with the Dominican Baseball Federation (FEDOM) and Major League Baseball (MLB), under the technical direction of Eddy González, Álvaro Samboy and Eliu Reyes. In the first edition of the event, the National District was crowned champion by defeating Santiago de los Caballeros in the final.
