Gaspar Hernández. The family of 40-year-old Claudio Alberto Zapata (Sambo) intensified their demand for justice this Tuesday after reporting that the man they identify as the alleged mastermind behind the murder remains at large, despite the fact that another individual involved has already been arrested by the authorities.

Gladys Jordana Zapata, the victim’s sister, asserted that Claudio Alberto was attacked from behind and beaten to death with an iron pipe, in a crime she described as “savage” and which, she claimed, should never have resulted in only one person being detained.

While waiting to collect the lifeless body from the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) in Santiago, where the corresponding autopsy was being performed, the woman denounced that the fugitive had allegedly ordered the deadly assault and stated that relatives of the accused tried to offer them RD$200,000 to stop demanding his arrest, a proposal they rejected because, she said, “her brother’s life is priceless.”

“We do not accept money. We want justice. They smashed my brother’s head with an iron pipe. They didn’t kill a dog, they killed a human being.

“The one who ordered the crime must also answer to justice,” he/she expressed through tears.

Zapata demanded that the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the National Police capture the second suspect and that both be sentenced to the maximum penalty, maintaining that the crime left a daughter orphaned and a family devastated.

As investigations continue, family members insist that the case will not be complete until all those responsible are apprehended and brought to justice.
