Santo Domingo Norte.- Amidst the wake of Maydarlyn Yunerki Acosta Almánzar, 33, allegedly murdered by her romantic partner, her cousin, Licinio Saldaña, expressed the pain and indignation felt by the family and called for tougher penalties against those responsible for femicides.
During statements given to the press at the Jerusalén Funeral Home, in Villa Mella, Saldaña maintained that violence against women will not decrease as long as there are no more severe sanctions for those who commit these crimes.
“I believe this will not stop until the laws are made stricter, that instead of 30 it should be 50 years,” he stated.
Amidst their dismay, the relative also called on women to defend themselves against sexist violence, expressing that aggressors must understand the suffering they cause with these types of acts.
Likewise, he described the helplessness he felt upon seeing the main suspect of the crime in police custody.

“Seeing that man being taken down in handcuffs as if nothing had happened, as if he believes he only killed an animal, that is helplessness,” he expressed.
Saldaña indicated that he did not personally know the defendant, Erick Antonio Gómez Torres, although he stated that, upon seeing him, he perceived an attitude that seemed out of the ordinary to him.
“The eyes were not those of a normal person, it was like a person who was really, really high,” he stated, although he clarified that he has no knowledge of whether the individual in question was under the influence of any substance.

The relative also lamented the situation facing the victim’s three children, who are still unaware of the magnitude of what happened.
“The most painful part of the case is the three children who are out there, who don’t know what happened and who are asking for their mom and their dad,” he said.
The remains of Maydarlyn Yunerki Acosta Almánzar continue to be mourned this Tuesday at the Jerusalén Funeral Home, located in Villa Mella, after she passed away due to multiple blunt force injuries that, according to the preliminary report from the National Police, she allegedly received inside her home in the Buena Vista I sector.
Erick Antonio Gómez Torres remains in custody, identified as the alleged perpetrator, while the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the National Police continue investigations into the case, which is being treated as an alleged femicide.
