Caracas / Washington.— The Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, María Corina Machado, assured that she will return to Venezuela “as soon as possible,” amid a new political scenario following the capture of President Nicolás Maduro by the United States.

The statements were made during an interview given to the American network Fox News, the first one offered to an international media outlet since the recent events. In the dialogue, Machado reaffirmed her commitment to the democratic struggle and assured that her return to the country will be key to accompanying Venezuelans in this new stage. Likewise, the opposition leader launched harsh criticisms against the interim president Delcy Rodríguez, whom she accused of trying to perpetuate a political model that, according to her, “has destroyed the institutions and violated the fundamental rights of the Venezuelan people.”

“Venezuela is facing a historic opportunity. It’s not about personal leadership, but about rebuilding democracy, justice, and freedom,” Machado said during the interview. Analysts believe that these statements reinforce the role of María Corina Machado as one of the main figures of the Venezuelan opposition, in a context of high political uncertainty and expectations of change both inside and outside the country. As of yet, an exact date for their return to Venezuela has not been confirmed.
