Santiago.- Amidst a strong police contingent, family, friends, neighbors, and acquaintances of José Vladimir Valerio Estévez, the 25-year-old young hairdresser shot dead on September 10 during a police operation in La Barranquita, held a peaceful march this Sunday with signs in hand to demand justice and the clearing of his name.
The demonstration began in front of the provincial government building and went through several sections of Del Sol street until reaching the Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration. The participants demanded that the authorities remove Valerio Estévez from the list of alleged criminals and rejected the official version that links him to a criminal gang. “He was a worker and a dedicated young man,” they firmly expressed, after concluding the novena in his memory.
Although the protest took place in an orderly manner, it was marked by the indignation and pain of those present, who insisted that the National Police must clarify the circumstances in which the death of Valerio Estévez occurred and assume responsibility for the case.
