Bogotá.- The Government of Colombia demanded this Wednesday that U.S. authorities investigate the murder of Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, the 26-year-old man who died on Sunday in a shooting by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in the state of Maine.
“The Foreign Ministry calls upon and demands that the competent U.S. authorities carry out the corresponding investigations in order to clarify the circumstances of this regrettable event in a prompt and exhaustive manner,” the entity indicated in a statement.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the incident and expressed its condolences to the relatives of the man who was killed by U.S. agents while he was inside his vehicle accompanied by his daughter, a 3-year-old girl, in the city of Biddeford (Maine).

Gustavo Petro also requested explanations
The Foreign Ministry reported that since the incident occurred, the Embassy of Colombia in the United States and the Colombian Consulate in Boston “have maintained contact with local authorities and the compatriot’s family members, providing the corresponding consular assistance and carrying out permanent monitoring of the situation.”

In this case, Petro asked his American counterpart, Donald Trump, to speak out in a “message to the Colombian people,” while condemning the murder of the 26-year-old man, asserting that he was killed “for being considered an inferior being without rights.”
“What has happened in Maine is the murder of a Colombian, a Latin American, at the hands of the U.S. government,” the president stated in a message on the social network X on Tuesday.
Petro indicated that he expects the “fastest” legal action from the Colombian foreign service in the United States so that the murderers “pay for their homicide.”
