San Francisco de Macorís — On the afternoon of this Wednesday, July 15, 2026, the individual named Israel Sánchez, alias “La Tata”, turned himself in to the police authorities of this municipality, who was actively sought for his alleged involvement in the death of Miguel Ramón Cruz Gómez, a tragic act of violence that occurred last weekend.
The violent incident attributed to “La Tata” occurred last Sunday night, when the victim, Miguel Ramón Cruz Gómez (a native of the Guiza community), was at a fast-food stand in this municipality.
The accused went to the National Police headquarters in San Francisco de Macorís accompanied by human rights representatives and by Nelson La Bala, president of the neighborhood association of the San Martín sector, who served as a liaison for the surrender to guarantee the young man’s physical integrity.
According to La Bala’s statements, the process was carried out through formal legal channels before the agents of the Central Directorate of Investigation (DICRIM), with the objective that the relevant investigations be conducted under due process of law.
According to the preliminary report from authorities and witness accounts, a heated argument broke out among those present due to a dispute over the order of service in the establishment’s line. The confrontation escalated quickly until Cruz Gómez was shot and killed at the scene.
