Cap Cana.– Jack Nicklaus oversees Las Iguanas Golf Course during a new visit to Cap Cana to follow up, together with his Jack Nicklaus Signature Design team, on the construction of the course, whose first nine holes are already in operation.

The project contemplates completing its 18 holes by the end of 2026, while the official opening of all its facilities is scheduled for the spring of 2027. The initiative is part of Cap Cana’s plans to expand its offerings linked to golf and sports tourism.

The visit of the American former golfer and designer continues the relationship he has maintained with the Destination City since the development of Punta Espada Golf Club, a facility that will celebrate 20 years of operations in 2026.

During his stay, Nicklaus and the members of his design firm review the progress of Las Iguanas, including elements related to construction and design. The course has been conceived taking into account the natural conditions and the landscape of the area where it is being developed.

Nicklaus explained that Las Iguanas had been left partially built and that the team is currently working to complete the project. He also referred to Punta Espada and recalled the reception the course had from its first years of operation.

The designer also highlighted the working relationship he has maintained with the Hazoury family and noted that his team returned to the Dominican Republic to continue being involved in this new phase of the project.

Cap Cana highlights relationship with Jack Nicklaus

Fernando Hazoury, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cap Cana, considered that the presence of Nicklaus and his team represents the continuity of a professional relationship developed over years around the Destination City’s golf projects.

Hazoury indicated that the participation of Jack Nicklaus Signature Design is part of the plans to position Cap Cana in the international tourism market and maintain golf as one of the components of its offering.

The executive explained that the destination’s sports strategy is not limited to this discipline. As part of that policy, he mentioned the hosting of international competitions such as the ATP Challenger 175 tennis tournament and the Ironman 70.3.

According to Hazoury, Cap Cana seeks to develop the necessary conditions to host different disciplines and attract visitors interested in competing, training, and participating in activities linked to sports.

Las Iguanas will have 18 holes

Jack Nicklaus is overseeing Las Iguanas Golf Course at a time when nine of its holes are operational and work continues to complete the remaining nine.

According to the schedule released by Cap Cana, the construction of the 18 holes should be completed by the end of 2026. Subsequently, the full official opening of the course is projected for the spring of 2027.

Las Iguanas will be incorporated into the golf infrastructure that has Punta Espada Golf Club as its main predecessor, also designed by Nicklaus. The latter will reach its two decades of operations during 2026.

The new field maintains design criteria oriented towards its integration with the landscape and the natural conditions of the terrain, according to the information provided about the project.

Cap Cana expands sports and tourism infrastructure

The development of Las Iguanas coincides with a stage of expansion in Cap Cana that includes real estate, hotel, sports, and entertainment projects. These initiatives are part of the Destination City’s planning to diversify the activities available to residents, investors, and visitors.

Within those plans, golf occupies a space alongside other sports disciplines and tourism activities. The strategy seeks to increase Cap Cana’s participation in the international sports tourism segment.

The connection with Nicklaus also continues through Punta Espada and Las Iguanas. In addition, among the plans mentioned for the destination is the possibility of developing a third golf course.

With nine holes of Las Iguanas already available and the rest under construction, Jack Nicklaus is overseeing Las Iguanas Golf Course as part of the process leading up to the completion of the course at the end of 2026 and its full official opening during the spring of 2027.
