Abinader on US deployment near Venezuela: “Any fight against drug trafficking that the US does will help”

SANTO DOMINGO.– President Luis Abinader referred this Monday to the recent deployment of United States near Venezuela, assuring that any action by that country will influence the fight against drug trafficking in the region.

“Any fight against drug trafficking that the United States undertakes will help in those actions. These actions are recent, we have to wait to evaluate”, the president indicated during LA Semanal.

However, Abinader acknowledged that the efforts directed against the cartels, especially in southern Venezuela, an area from which, according to him, most of the drug trafficking actions originate, do represent significant support in the fight against organized crime. “It undoubtedly helps,” he added. The president emphasized the need to carefully analyze the effects of any external intervention before drawing conclusions about its impact on regional security and the fight against drug trafficking.
