National Council of the Magistracy will begin in October the process for evaluating judges of the Supreme Court of Justice and TSE

The start of evaluations is scheduled for October 2nd, and the swearing-in ceremony is planned for November 28th. Santo Domingo. – The National Council of the Magistracy (CNM) held its second working session this Monday to evaluate the judges of the Supreme Court of Justice who could opt for a new term, as well as fill two vacancies. Likewise, the knowledge of applicants for judges and alternates of the Superior Electoral Tribunal. Magistrate Nancy Salcedo, in her capacity as a member and secretary of the Council, informed that the new judges of the Supreme Court of Justice and the Electoral Superior Tribunal could be sworn in on November 28, if they advance according to the established schedule. At the end of this second session, it was indicated that the amendment to regulation 1-19 was approved, specifically in its article 4, regarding the decision to conduct or not public interviews with judges undergoing evaluation, which was proposed in the first session, last July 25th.

“These observations were valued and examined with care. Starting tomorrow, the public announcement of the approval of the modified regulation will be made and a period will be opened for citizens to become aware and make observations on those reports that will be posted on the website of the National Council of the Magistracy,” Salcedo specified.

Currently, there are two vacancies in the First Chamber of the Supreme Court, and three judges whose terms have ended and must be evaluated. Since 2019, these magistrates have sent annual performance reports that are available on the CNM website, which will allow any citizen to consult and comment on them.
