Santo Domingo.- Political analyst Ana García, a member of the Political Commission of the Fuerza del Pueblo party, stated that the best migration policy that the Dominican State can implement is to “guarantee food and a source of employment for every young Dominican”.
The statement was made during an interview on the program Migration 3.0 from De Último Minuto TV, hosted by Sabet Cruz and Erika Reyes, where she presented proposals to stop emigration and encourage the return of talent trained abroad.
García pointed out that the lack of opportunities, the deficiency in health and education services, and a youth unemployment rate close to 20% drive thousands of Dominicans to leave the country in search of a better quality of life.
The FP leader indicated that the “brain drain” is one of the main national challenges, as young people trained abroad do not return, depriving the country of its talent. As a solution, she proposed incentives such as guaranteed jobs, salaries commensurate with academic preparation, housing facilities and tax incentives for new businesses, in addition to transforming remittances into productive investment and not just basic consumption.
The political leader also warned about the social impact of emigration, which includes the separation of families and the increased risk of school dropout and delinquency among children growing up without one or both parents. She maintained that a “Dominican dream” with real opportunities and economic stability can reduce dependence on the so-called “American dream”.
