The former president asserted that “there is no possible comparison between what President Abinader has done and what the PLD has done,” defending the achievements of his administration against what he described as an abandonment of strategic sectors under the current administration. Referring to the energy crisis and the blackouts that have generated protests in different communities, Medina maintained that the PRM set aside the electricity expansion plan that the PLD had designed to ensure the construction of new plants. “As they came to the Government and there were no blackouts, they neglected to build more plants that would generate energy to meet the demand of each year”, he indicated. He added that distributors now buy electricity at a higher cost, which makes the service more expensive and affects the population. The assembly was attended by the PLD’s secretary general, Johnny Pujols, as well as vice presidents Zoraima Cuello and Yván Lorenzo, the secretary of Organization, Mayobanex Escoto, and other national and provincial leaders. Among them, Héctor Olivo, Radhamés Camacho, Simón Lizardo, Gustavo Sánchez, Elías Cornelio, Sonia Mateo, Miriam Cabral, Yomaira Medina, Francisco Domínguez Brito, among others, along with the local leaders of Valverde, Ángela Pozo, Tabaré Rodríguez and Loly Fermín. Medina concluded his speech by reiterating that the PLD remains “the party with the most achievements in the recent history of the country” and warned that the organization is ready to “regain the course of the nation” in the upcoming elections.Danilo Medina on debate with Abinader: “I would have to humiliate him”
