Santo Domingo. – Amid tears and demands for justice, the wake of the 14-year-old prospect, Gustavo Talmar, is taking place, whose sudden death has generated outrage and questions towards the baseball academy where he had been staying for two months. His relatives claim that the version offered by the institution is contradictory and hides the truth of what happened.

The family revealed data that has increased their suspicions: when the body was recovered from the water, the young man had the pants of another academy player clutched in his hands and, in addition, presented a visible blow to the forehead. For them, this evidence contradicts the version of an accident and suggests that the minor was the victim of a violent act.

The teenager’s mother, María Esther Pimentel, rejected the academy’s explanations, which claim that the minor had left on his own and ended up drowning. She assured that her son never went out on weekends or was absent without supervision, and that the facilities have strict security and surveillance cameras that can prove it.

“My son wasn’t a mischievous child, he was polite, disciplined, and calm. He never left the room to go anywhere other than his bedroom. He wasn’t going to fly any walls or throw himself into the water. Furthermore, he knew how to swim, we had trained him for that,” expressed the visibly affected mother.

The pain of the loss is multiplied when remembering the bright future that was extinguished. Talmaré had dazzled in 2023 as the most outstanding Dominican player in the U-12 Baseball World Cup, and in 2024 he was consecrated as the Most Valuable Player of the first Caribbean Series Kids, where his talent and dedication captivated the fans.

Relatives insist on a thorough investigation to determine responsibilities, warning that they will not rest until justice is served. “We do not accept that the academy continues to lie and hide what really happened to my son,” said the mother during the wake.
