Santo Domingo.- The Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) leader, Eugenio Cedeño, announced this Thursday the withdrawal of his bid for the organization’s General Secretariat, considering that the internal process does not offer the necessary guarantees for a democratic contest.

Through a statement, Cedeño assured that she made the decision after understanding that the conditions of the process were previously defined, which, in her view, limits the participation on equal terms of those seeking to lead the party.

“I have decided to withdraw my aspirations upon observing that the path is marked by pre-established structures that limit free participation and the debate of ideas that the PRM needs at this moment,” the leader expressed.

Cedeño’s resignation comes amidst the expectations generated by the renewal of the ruling party’s authorities and versions regarding a possible participation of President Luis Abinader in the leadership of the PRM for the next term, a topic that holds the attention of the militancy and the national political scene.
