First Lady to participate in international meeting on the digital future of childhood

Santo Domingo.- First Lady Raquel Arbaje will participate in the inaugural meeting of the Global Coalition Fostering the Future Together, which will be held in Washington D.C., United States, on the 24th and 25th of this month.

This international space, driven by the Office of the First Lady of the United States Melania Trump and the Department of State, will bring together first ladies, experts, organizations, and representatives from the technology sector to address the main challenges and opportunities facing children in the digital age.

The First Lady is traveling with Ancell Scheker, Vice Minister of Technical and Pedagogical Affairs of the Ministry of Education; Luis Madera, Vice Minister of Coordination and Monitoring of the Government, and Nancy Handal de Mejía, coordinator of the First Lady’s Office.

During the meeting, the participation of the Dominican Republic will focus on the advances and efforts in educational technology. In her presentation, First Lady Raquel Arbaje will highlight how the country has taken on the challenge of digital transformation as an opportunity to strengthen its education system, evolving towards a competency-based model that prioritizes critical thinking, problem-solving, and adaptation to change.

Furthermore, it will address the role of technology as a cross-cutting axis of the Dominican educational curriculum, accompanied by teacher training processes that guarantee its effective integration in the classrooms. These actions are part of the National Digital Education Strategy, which promotes initiatives in areas such as computational thinking, artificial intelligence, and the development of 21st-century skills.

Representatives from 45 countries will participate in the meeting to articulate concrete commitments around digital education and the protection of children in the online environment. Participating technology companies include OpenAI, Microsoft, Meta, Google, Adobe, xAI, Palantir and Zoom Communications.

With her presence in this forum, First Lady Raquel Arbaje reinforces the country’s position as an active player in the global conversation about the future of education and child welfare in the digital age.
