National District.– Amidst outrage, Rafael Navarro, father of Evelyn Mariela Navarro, one of the victims of the roof collapse at the Jet Set nightclub, reacted to the ruling that sent brothers Antonio and Maribel Espaillat to a full trial, maintaining the legal classification of involuntary manslaughter.
“Nothing is going to happen here with those murderers,” Navarro expressed upon leaving the Ciudad Nueva Palace of Justice, after Judge Raymundo Mejía rejected the request from some plaintiffs to change the charge to voluntary manslaughter.
Likewise, he questioned the decision issued during the preliminary hearing and expressed his distrust that the judicial process would conclude with sanctions proportional to the magnitude of the tragedy that claimed the lives of 236 people and left more than a hundred injured.

During his statements, he also criticized what he considers an insufficient response from different sectors regarding the case, pointing out that many families continue to wait for justice more than a year after the events.
Despite his disagreement with the judicial decision, Navarro assured that he will continue to participate actively in the process. “We are going to continue, we are going to keep going until the end,” he stated, reiterating his commitment to maintain the fight for justice on behalf of his daughter and the other victims.

With the ruling issued this Monday, the case moves to the trial stage, where a court must determine the criminal liability of the defendants for the collapse that occurred in the early hours of April 8, 2025.
