Boca Chica, RD. – A serious act of domestic violence was recorded early this Monday, when a man allegedly seriously injured his niece and subsequently set fire to the house where she lived, amid a dispute over inherited land. The aggressor was identified as “Hanzel Morales Matos”, who, according to the report from family members, attacked his niece “Nurián García Matos”, 34 years old, causing multiple injuries in different parts of the body. After the aggression, the man would have returned hours later to set fire to the house, apparently with the intention of “finishing the job”, also endangering the life of the victim’s mother, “Nuria Montilla”.

According to Mrs. Montilla’s testimony, the conflict originated after she inherited a house and a plot of land that she decided to give to her daughter. This decision would have unleashed the annoyance of her brother Hanzel, who allegedly had been threatening and assaulting both women for months in claim of the property. The fire destroyed a large part of the house, while the young woman was taken to a health center, where she remains in a delicate condition. The authorities are already investigating the case and are searching for the alleged aggressor, who fled after the incident. Neighbors and family members expressed concern about the level of violence reached in this conflict, and asked that the authorities guarantee the protection of the victims and act firmly against the attempted femicide and arson.
