Boca Chica. – The Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) began this Tuesday the construction and renovation of three important infrastructure works in Boca Chica, as part of an ambitious comprehensive transformation project that seeks to strengthen the tourism, social, economic, and environmental development of this iconic coastal destination.
During the event, architect Amín Abel Santos, general coordinator of the Comprehensive Tourism and Urban Development Program, highlighted that the interventions respond to a strategic vision promoted by the Government to rescue and rehabilitate the main urban spaces of the country’s tourist hubs.

“Boca Chica could not be the exception. It is the nation’s first historic tourist hub and has shown great resilience in the face of the challenges of its development,” he expressed.
Among the works to be executed are the construction of the Andrés Boardwalk, the intervention of the Caracoles Plaza, and the remodeling of the Boca Chica Central Park. However, Santos explained that the scope of the project goes far beyond these structures, as it contemplates a comprehensive intervention of the entire municipality.
He indicated that spaces such as the San Rafael Arcángel church, Duarte Street, and other public parks will also be rehabilitated, while one of the most important components will be the regeneration of Boca Chica beach, considered one of the main tourist attractions in the area.

The official detailed that the plan is based on three strategic axes. The first is focused on infrastructure and urban equipment, including the boardwalk, parks, streets, and community spaces.
The second axis seeks to promote socioeconomic rehabilitation through the organization and strengthening of small local merchants. In this sense, he highlighted the construction of a plaza for vendors with the goal of creating greater order and helping merchants develop their businesses in more dignified conditions.
Likewise, the enablement of east and west access plazas is contemplated, with modules intended to promote local economies and generate new opportunities for residents.

The third axis corresponds to the regeneration of Boca Chica beach, an initiative that is part of the strategy to recover and preserve the destination’s natural resources.
Santos assured that the project responds to a vision promoted by the Minister of Tourism, who took on the commitment to completely intervene and regenerate the Boca Chica tourist hub.
Regarding the new boardwalk, he explained that it will have an extension of one kilometer and will be divided into five sections with different areas of use. Among the planned facilities are a surf school, spaces for beach equipment, sidewalk expansion, viewpoints to contemplate the coastal landscape, sports courts, bathrooms, sales modules, and a Politur security unit.
“It is a comprehensive vision, a development strategically thought out so that this rescue reaches all sectors of the people of Boca Chica,” he affirmed.
The architect highlighted that the interventions not only seek to strengthen tourism activity, but also to positively impact local communities and contribute to the protection of the natural environment, thus consolidating the sustainable development of one of the most iconic destinations in the Dominican Republic.
