Puerto Plata.– A judge from the Judicial Office of Permanent Care Services of the Judicial District of Puerto Plata imposed three months of preventive detention against Rine Liranzo García, accused of destroying five electric meters and physically assaulting a resident of the municipality of Imbert, in a case that authorities describe as an attack against the National Electric System.
The measure was ordered after the court accepted the request presented by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Deputy Attorney General for the Electrical System (PGASE), considering that there is sufficient evidence linking the defendant to the events that occurred on July 6 in the El Club sector, in Imbert.
According to the file, around 7:00 in the morning, Liranzo García allegedly used a wooden stick to intentionally destroy five energy meters belonging to residents of the community. During the incident, he also allegedly assaulted one of the owners of the equipment, causing injuries certified by a medical-legal evaluation.
The defendant faces charges for an alleged violation of Article 124 of the General Electricity Law 125-01, which provides for penalties of three to ten years in prison and fines of between 50 and 200 minimum wages for those who deliberately destroy or damage equipment and facilities of the national electricity system.
The court took into account the gravity of the facts, the damage caused to the assets, the impact on the provision of the electrical service, and the defendant’s lack of sufficient ties to guarantee his presence during the proceedings, therefore ordering pretrial detention as a coercive measure.

The investigations were reinforced with the intervention of the Physical Security Directorate of Edenorte Dominicana, whose actions allowed for the location and arrest of the accused to bring him to justice.
During the hearing, Edenorte was represented by lawyer Luisa Rosa García Polanco, while PGASE was represented by magistrate Sandy Bencosme.

Following the court’s decision, Edenorte reaffirmed that it will continue to pursue legal action against those who attack electrical infrastructure, warning that these acts generate economic losses for the State, increase equipment replacement costs, and affect the stability and continuity of the service received by thousands of users.
