Santo Domingo.- The National Police are deepening investigations to identify and capture the man who shot Yhatnna Gelisa Cordero Bello, 37, who passed away after being wounded by gunfire during an incident that occurred at a commercial establishment in Plaza Castilla, located on Abraham Lincoln Avenue, at the corner of Paseo de los Locutores, in the National District.
National Police spokesperson Diego Pesqueira reported that the victim received a gunshot wound to the thoracic area and was transported to a health center, where they subsequently passed away.
In that sense, Pesqueira indicated that police officers went to the scene to carry out the corresponding investigations and interview people who may have witnessed the event.
According to preliminary investigations, the assailant allegedly burst into the establishment asking for a man who was at the location. Authorities are keeping his identity confidential for security reasons, while they investigate the possible motive for the attack.
Pesqueira explained that the man the attacker asked for is the owner of a cell phone sales business located in the same plaza and that, precisely this Friday, he was scheduled to appear at a hearing related to an assault of which he was a victim in June of last year. The Police are investigating whether this background could be related to the attack that occurred at the establishment.

The police spokesperson indicated that, according to preliminary information, the victim panicked the moment the gunman burst into the business, a situation during which the shot that struck her was fired.
Meanwhile, investigative teams and police technicians are collecting footage from security cameras in the square and surrounding areas, with the purpose of establishing the attacker’s escape route and advancing their identification and capture.
