Santo Domingo. – Former Minister of Women, Janet Camilo, openly questioned the recent edition of the Miss Dominican Republic Universe pageant, considering that the selection of the candidates does not represent the diversity and beauty of the country. The statements were made during her participation in the program “Marking the Course” which is broadcast on CDN.
Camilo expressed his disagreement with the group of contestants, stating that “a group of the ugliest girls in the country” was chosen. He added that, in his opinion, none of the participants reflected the traditional standards of Dominican beauty and that “not even the winner” could be considered a true representative.
During her intervention, she also questioned the excessive use of makeup among the contestants, insinuating that, without these aesthetic resources, many of them would have a different appearance. She pointed out that when traveling through the country she observes young women “beautiful, without surgery, without makeup”, with different types of hair and skin tones, who were not present in the contest.
