The tragedy strikes the Dominican announcer based in New York, Mildre Aquino, known as “La Makina,” after her husband, Máximo Polanco de Jesús, died in a fire in a traffic accident that occurred on March 9th. According to preliminary information, Polanco allegedly was hit by another vehicle, which caused both cars to catch fire. The accident ended up becoming a fatal accident in which Máximo lost his life at the scene. The tragic event occurred days before the announcer traveled to the Dominican Republic to participate in the Soberano Awards, where she is nominated in the “Announcer of the Year” category.

The news has caused great shock among the Dominican community and colleagues in the media, especially because the couple had a child together of just five years old. In addition, the accident coincided with the child’s birthday. The Santiago Broadcasters Association and colleagues from the Amor 93.1 radio station, where Aquino works, publicly expressed their condolences for the irreparable loss.
“With deep sorrow we share the passing of our beloved Máximo Polanco, who tragically passed away on March 9, 2026. He will be remembered for his big heart, his joy, and the love he always had for his family and friends. His loss leaves an immense void in all who knew and loved him.”
