Tehran.- The Iranian Revolutionary Guard claimed this Monday that two oil tankers that, according to them, were attempting to transit an “unsafe” route south of the Strait of Hormuz exploded on Sunday night and “were immobilized,” amidst the military escalation and the standoff with the United States over the control of this strategic maritime passage.
“Two offending oil tankers that, at the instigation and coercion of the United States’ ‘child-killing army,’ were attempting to enter and exit through the unsafe and dangerous route located south of the Strait of Hormuz exploded and were immobilized,” the Revolutionary Guard stated in a release disseminated by the Tasnim agency, after Washington denied a similar incident announced by Tehran on Friday.
The statement does not provide details regarding the identity of the vessels, the causes of the explosions, nor does it report any possible casualties.
If he warns that as long as the United States’ actions in the area continue, passage through the Strait of Hormuz “will not be safe” for the transit of goods, oil, and gas, and that he will respond “firmly” to any intervention.
A British agency reports a vessel fire
Hours earlier, the British agency United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), which monitors shipping safety, reported that a vessel was on fire in the Strait of Hormuz, eight nautical miles northwest of Kumzar (Oman).
The UKMTO, citing information from military authorities, indicated that the cause of the fire has not yet been verified.
