What began as a student behavior incident on a school bus in Calaveras County, California, ended with a mother being arrested and the bus taken out of service.

The incident happened Monday, August 24, when the bus driver stopped along Highway 49 near Russell Road and waited for police before allowing the students to leave.

A 12-year-old student told KCRA 3 that the situation escalated after another student jumped through a window. The driver then ordered the students to close the windows and remain seated.

The children reportedly remained on the stopped bus for about an hour while they waited for authorities to arrive.

The incident has sparked a public debate over school safety procedures and parents’ rights when they believe their children are being kept on a bus against their will.
