New Jersey parents charged in death of 2-month-old baby

Jenae Vásquez, 20, and Jason Megaro, 27, have been charged in connection with the death of their 2-month-old baby in New Jersey, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.

The couple was arrested Tuesday and faces charges of aggravated manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child. Vásquez is from the Bronx, New York, while Megaro is a resident of Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania.

The case began on March 25, when police were notified that the infant had been taken to Bayonne Medical Center with injuries. The baby was later transferred to University Hospital in Newark, where the child was pronounced dead the following day.

The regional medical examiner determined that the baby died from complications related to blunt-force traumatic head injuries and classified the death as a homicide. Authorities have not released additional details about how the injuries occurred.

The charges are allegations, and both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
